I believe in climate science. A few years ago, that wouldn’t have been an interesting statement, but times have changed. What I want to make sure doesn’t change is that Fairfax County understands just how important this issue is to our community.
Thus far, Fairfax County hasn’t developed a county-wide action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the private sector – and our private sector is the source of 97 percent of the county’s greenhouse gas emissions. And while a vision statement was adopted, it didn’t have the force of action – or budget behind it. We can change this.
As we continue growing the economy in Fairfax County, we must do so in a sustainable, green manner. This is why I fully support the #GreenNewDealVA.
Words without actions are no long enough, and I know that I’m the person who can make sure that Fairfax County becomes a leader in the Commonwealth for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
On this Earth Day, let’s recognize the role we can all play in our future and our family’s future. As the mother of young children, I am extremely concerned about the future and about our planet we are leaving behind for them. Join me on this important mission. We can do this for them!
